Bective Host Glenamuck Open Day

AIB League club Bective Rangers had an Open Day at their Glenamuck grounds recently to show club members and supporters the progress made with the redevelopment work there.

Bective Rangers received approval for a Government Sports Grant of €;250,000 and members contributed a further €;100,000 to carry out the reconstruction work which will consist of:

– Eliminating the famous slope on the pitches by carrying out a major cut and fill operation
– Installing a full-sized IRB main pitch together with training area and mini-rugby pitches
– Installation of a first class drainage system over the entire grounds
– Installation of floodlights to playing standard

The wet weather in July and August hampered progress at Glenamuck but the contractors, Peter O’Brien and Sons Ltd., from Malahide made the most of the breaks in the rain and the grass was sown in August and shortly after that, the drainage system was installed.

At the Open Day, Bective club members could not believe their eyes as they viewed the vast expanse of level green sward that replaced the pock-marked undulating ground that was the bane of many a player’s winter afternoon.

In the spring, the floodlighting will be installed and the grounds will be allowed the benefit of next summer’s growth before the official opening at the start of next season when Bective look forward to entertaining their many friends in the rugby community at this first class facility.
