EPCR Challenge Cup Final: Montpellier v Ulster Highlights
A first trophy win in 20 years was the target for Richie Murphy’s Ulster outfit as they battled it out with former champions Montpellier in tonight’s EPCR Challenge Cup final.
The Bilbao finals weekend kicked off with the Ulstermen, buoyed by the return of Robert Baloucoune from injury, attempting to win prized European silverware and also secure Champions Cup qualification after missing out on the BKT United Rugby Championship’s top eight.
A 43,204-strong crowd watched the action at San Mamés Stadium where Ulster came up against Montpellier for the first time since a round of 16 clash two years ago which they won 40-17 in the south of France.
However, Joan Caudullo’s current side are sitting second at present in the Top 14 table, and put themselves in a position to win the club’s third Challenge Cup crown since 2016 courtesy of a seven-match winning run.
