PwC Host Development Day For Ireland Under-20s

PwC Host Development Day For Ireland Under-20s

PwC Ireland was delighted to host the first IRFU Under-20 Development Day last week as part of the PwC/Irish Rugby Football Union’s Elite Player Pathway Programme.

The programme, a key aspect of PwC’s ongoing sponsorship of the Ireland Under-20 squad, identifies and supports the development of rugby talent across the country.

It puts support services in place to enhance and fast-track player development to ensure that these young athletes are ready to compete at representative level and in the professional game, as well as in business life.

The Development Day dealt with communication skills required by high-performing athletes, both on the pitch and when they move on to the next phase of their careers. Sessions included interview techniques, social media training and interpersonal skills.

Speaking at the event, Ian McIlrath, Junior Vice President of the IRFU, said: “Today is a hugely beneficial and important staging point for the Ireland Under-20 squad as their preparations continue for the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Georgia this summer.

“PwC’s support has been invaluable to Irish Rugby as official sponsors of this team and the Elite Player Pathway Programme, as well as the Ireland Under-19 and Under-18 teams. Days such as today provide a great opportunity for the players to continue to develop and work towards reaching their potential, both as a team and as individuals, as their careers progress.”

Feargal O’Rourke, Managing Partner, PwC, added: “As one of the IRFU’s longest-serving partners, we are very pleased to support this talented team to be the best they can be.

“Whether on the pitch or in business, qualities like excellence, teamwork and leadership are key ingredients for success. Developing talent and supporting our people to reach their potential professionally and personally is very much part of our business.

“We are excited to be associated with the Elite Player Pathway Programme to help develop the skills of these young sports stars for wherever life may take them.”
