UCD Defend Title In 62nd Colours Match

The 62nd colours match between UCD and Trinity takes place in Donnybrook on Friday night (7.30pm) with the Division 1A side favourites to retain the title but recent games haven’t always gone the way of the favourites!

Currently 7th in the to Division, UCD should have the edge but they have lost form in the latter part of the season, having lead the way in the early stages.

Dublin University are struggling in Division 1B and are in the relegation zone alongside Blackrock but with some key players back from injury they could be hitting a vein of form at just the right time.

Last season the squads played twice in Division 1B and split the spoils with each team winning their home game. Following the last nine 1st XV encounters UCD lead 5-4.

All the recent games have been physical but very open running affairs, with both teams looking to keep the ball in hand and use their very potent outside backs.

Recent form would suggest that the underdog will win! Three years ago UCD were undefeated all season and Trinity beat them well in the last game of the season – Colours and Ulster Bank League contest.

Two years ago Trinity were in the middle of their league record breaking streak of 19 wins, only to be well beaten by a struggling UCD team who had not won a game after Christmas!

What is most certain is that 30 players plus subs will be reaching a landmark in their rugby/sporting careers when they take to the pitch in Donnybrook on Friday evening at 7.30pm.
