In Pics: Ireland Training At Carton House

The Ireland squad had their pitch session at Carton House earlier today, with forwards coach John Plumtree issuing an update afterwards on injury concerns Jonathan Sexton and Peter O’Mahony.

Commenting on the fitness of Jonathan Sexton (thumb) and Peter O’Mahony (hamstring), John Plumtree said: “Jonny trained today and he did really well. He was sort of in and out with Paddy (Jackson) and Mads (Ian Madigan), so we’ll make the final call on Thursday.

“He didn’t look in too much discomfort at all. I think he’ll be pretty good for the weekend, as long as Joe (Schmidt) makes that call on Thursday.

“It looks like the scan (he underwent yesterday) is clear. Again, it’s just how that thumb feels. I guess there are just certain aspects of the game like tackling and grappling that’ll be the true test. We’ll give that a test on Thursday.”

The Ireland forwards coach added: “Peter looked better today. Again, we’ll make that call on Thursday. He hasn’t done a lot of team work with us.

“He was pretty banged up after England and it’s just whether his body is 100% ready to go, bearing in mind that we’ve still got another big Test match next week (against France) as well.”
