As we participate in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, we reflect on the changing world of sport and indeed a changing Ireland.
Rugby in Ireland both makes and reflects these changes which is healthy and ensures our great sport remains relevant and strong.
As caretakers of the legacy of rugby on this island, we are mindful of our responsibility to leave our sport stronger and better directed as we pass over the sport to the generations to come.
In times like this it is important that we consider our long term future and develop a well drawn roadmap to guide us there.
With this in mind, we have initiated a process to develop a long term vision for 2020 onwards to be known as VISION 2020, which will research and engage with all strands of the Irish rugby community and the general public on the island.
We are doing this research for the first time to establish a sense of where rugby is now as a sport and more importantly where it might be in the life of the island by 2020.
VISION 2020 will undertake the following:
Research throughout the island into how sport and rugby in particular are perceived by the ordinary person.
Research within the rugby Ireland family.
Research into the national and international trends in society, sport and rugby.
Research into all the visual communication streams within rugby in Ireland.
This is a really exciting initiative which needs your support and participation. Join the team and contribute to creating the legacy for our great sport which will provide programmes and structures to make the community and people of this island proud of Irish rugby, its family and its success.
