Stapleton Honoured By Old Belvedere

Old Belvedere RFC recently held their awards ceremony for the 2009/10 season. The event is always a well attended one, with club officials, coaches, players and supporters coming together to reflect on the campaign and honour special achievements.

Approximately 20 awards were presented by Old Belvedere RFC President David Hargadan and a special presentation was made to Nora Stapleton, one of the club’s international players.

Nora, who can play at full-back, on the wing or in the centre, scored 21 tries during the season for her club and one for Ireland in their RBS Women’s 6 Nations win over Scotland in March.

Two of her touchdowns for Old Belvedere came in the Women’s All-Ireland League Division 2 decider against City of Derry.

The 26-year-old made her International debut this season, lining out on the right wing against Italy, and is the first Old Belvedere club member to play at senior level for Ireland since Neil Francis. In all, she won four caps during the recent Six Nations campaign.

In a greatly appreciated gesture by all in attendance, Nora presented one of her International jerseys to David Hargadan to mark a very emotional occasion.

The Donegal woman, who is based in Dublin, is hoping to feature for Ireland at the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup in London.

The girls in green’s opening game in Pool B is against hosts England at Surrey Sports Park (kick-off 6.30pm) on Friday, August 20.

Kevin West’s charges will also face the USA on Tuesday, August 24 (4.30pm) and Kazakhstan on Saturday, August 28 (4.30pm) at the same venue.
