Clontarf Get Into Christmas Spirit
The Clontarf village Christmas tree lights were switched on last Thursday night by Clontarf director of rugby Bernard Jackman.
The Vernon Avenue Business Association’s representative, Gus O’Hara of O’Hara’s Spar, invited Clontarf director of rugby Bernard Jackman to switch on the tree lights on Clontarf’s promenade.
Now in its third year, the switching on of the lights was watched by close to 250 Clontarf residents, local political figures as well as one of Irish rugby’s latest stars, Clontarf’s own Cian Healy.
Hot food and drink was supplied by local business as spectators were treated to Christmas carols by the Seafield
Road Choir.
Bernard was joined on the stage by Santa and together they and the crowd counted down from 10 to 1 before switching on the lights on. Afterwards, Bernard was joined by fellow Leinster prop Stan Wright to sign autographs for local children.
Bernard said: “It’s a great honour for me to be invited to switch on the lights tonight here in the village.”
The 20 foot-plus tree situated across from the bottom of Vernon Avenue was erected by Dublin City Parks Division and brought up from Wicklow during the week.
Clontarf Rugby Club Chairman Geoff Curran commented: “It was great to see all the local business working together like a team and we at Clontarf Rugby Club are very proud to be part of the celebrations.”
