Tag News from Enniscorthy RFC

Lucky Tag players and supporters at Enniscorthy RFC got their chance to see some of Irish rugby’s great successes of 2009 up close and personal last week.

With finals now about to kick-off, there is an even bigger last couple of weeks for all at this great Bud Light Tag venue.

Tag afficionados at Enniscorthy RFC had a special guest last Thursday. Leinster’s success in European rugby’s premier competition this year was celebrated, as The Heineken Cup trophy visited the Ross Road venue. A large crowd of players from the clubs minis, youths and senior sections were joined by tag players, supporters and sports fans who took the opportunity to admire, touch & hold the trophy. Cameras clicked incessantly as unique photos were taken of young and old with the trophy. Despite the threat of rain the atmosphere buzzed as the BBQ sizzled, Music played and people enjoyed one of the night’s 12 Tag matches. Some even relived Leinster’s performance in Edinburgh by watching replays of the final as well as the semi final victory over Munster. Earlier in the day, Enniscorthy RFC made a surprise visit with the trophy to the Co Wexford Community Workshop’s Fun day in Belfield. The trophy received a rapturous welcome and clients, family and friends all had an opportunity for a snap with the cup.

But thats not all! There is an even bigger date to note in your diary at Enniscorthy’s venue. On Thursday 30th July Ireland’s Grand Slam silverware will be making a most welcome appearance along with the ‘A’ team’s success.

It promises to be another great night with Music and BBQ as well as the semi finals of the Bud Light Tag Season. Everyone is invited to come along on the night and be part of what has been a huge summer so far!

Meanwhile on the field of play, the action was hotter than the weather as Thursday night saw the completion of the group stages of the Bud Light Tag season. The quarter final fixtures have now been decided in all 3 grades, based on team’s league positions after 7 weeks of matches. After 7 weeks, the table topping teams in each grade have remained unbeaten. In the highest Grade B, Karmasutra Kings maintained their 100% record and in the process scored an astonishing 131 points over the 7 weeks. In Grade C, a tense, table topping battle between two previously unbeaten teams, saw The Wexicans secure 1st place by beating Tag Party 10 – 7. Meanwhile in the Beginners grade, league leaders Rocky’s Horrors, scored a last minute try to rescue a draw against the Forward Passes and in the process maintain their unbeaten record.

Teams now play quarter finals this Thursday, with Semi Finals on Thursday 30th July leading to Finals Night on Saturday 8th August (note date). One of the great things about the Tag season is the fact that ALL teams participate in Finals night, even if is only to decide the *ahem* most coveted wooden spoon position! So look forward to more action from teams like Headless Chickens, Who’s Ya Daddy, Scorthy Hookers, The Killers, Class Act and many more
