New Captain And Director Of Rugby For Terenure

Terenure College have announced that Ian Morgan has been appointed as the club’s new director of rugby, taking over from New Zealander Kevin West who has departed Lakelands. Experienced back Mark Mahony has also been confirmed as Terenure’s new captain.

Ian Morgan, who spent 13 years with Barnhall, has been handed the task of getting Terenure College back into the top flight of the AIB League after their relegation last season.

‘Moggy’ is a very experienced coach and will certainly relish the challenge of rebuilding things at ‘Nure, with confirmation already that five French players will be bolstering the squad for the new season in Division Two, including Kevin Mpambou-Dodang from Suttonians.

‘Nure won only one of their 15 AIB League fixtures last term, while Morgan’s Barnhall side maintain their Division Three status, finishing 14th of the 16 lower tier clubs.

Meanwhile, Mark Mahony has been confirmed as Terenure’s club captain for the 2009/10 campaign.

The versatile back, who is comfortable at both full-back and scrum half, has been a first team player since leaving Terenure College.

He takes over from number 8 Alex Dunlop who has left the club for Blackrock College.

Speaking about his appointment, Mahony said that it was ‘an honour to be selected as captain’ and he is looking forward to steering the club back into Division One.
