It was a night for the overseas contingent as Internationals and ex players got on the score sheet in the busy round of warm up games. The provincial coaches, however, will have been pleased to get game time under their belts ahead of the start of the Magners League.

Leicester’s Ireland star Geordan Murphy crossed for two tries as part of a 18 – 26 win over a youthful and spirited Munster side in Musgrave Park. Both tries were converted by another Irish man – Paul Burke.

About 6,000 Munster fans packed in to Musgarve park to watch Munster’s first warm up game of the season against a near full strength Leicester Tigers. Both Christian Cullen and Frankie Sheahan made their Munster comebacks.

Ulster scored early in their game against the Earth Titans of Rotherham but a tight game followed but Ulster led 19 – 7 at the half and finished the game as 26 – 14 winners.

A second defeat for Leinster in their pre-season game against London Irish, but a fine display from Luke Fitzgerald and home debuts for Trevor Hogan and Stephen Keogh kept the crowd entertained on a wet evening in Donnybrook.

Tge game ended with a scoreline of 10 – 25 in favour of London Irish with two former Leinster men – Ben Willis and Barry Everitt contributing to the points.
