There was no consolation for Buccaneers for their AIB League semi-final defeat on Saturday, when their Under 20s were beaten 22-13 by Dublin University in the All Ireland Under 20 League Final played at North Kildare RFC on Monday.

The Dublin side played against a strong wind in the opening half, dominated the forward exchanges, and led 5-3 at the break, thanks to a Brian Butterwick try.
Former Schoolboy international David Connellan kicked a penalty for Buccs in that opening half.

Wind assisted in the second half the students quickly established territorial advantage and the tries followed from Brian Hastings, Eoin Condron and Colin McShane to set up a 22-3 lead.

To their great credit, Buccaneers responded superbly but the tries from Pierre Cornje and Anthony Downey came much too late to deny Dublin University.

Meanwhile, down south Shannon won their 15th Munster Senior Cup title with a 22-13 victory over a Midleton who were appearing in their first final.

Shannon led 12-6 at the break with tries from Eddie Halvey and captain David Quinlan, the Midleton tally coming from two Jason Holland penalties.

In the second half, it was Midleton who continued to force the pace but when they coughed up the ball in the Shannon 22, the Limerick side broke out for Colm McMahon to score the clincher.
