Superb Ulster Set Up All Irish Celtic Semi

Ulster’s superb 20-17 victory over Glasgow in Hughenden sets up an all-Irish Celtic League semi-final against Munster in Thomond Park in early January.

A marvellous final quarter fight-back gave Ulster a 20-17 victory over Glasgow to set up a semi-final clash with Munster in Thomond Park in the first week in January.

It was a victory that owed much to the famous Ulster spirit that first allowed them claw their way back into the game and then resist a final, desperate Glasgow onslaught.

Ulster trailed 14-10 at the break and then went 17-10 down when Tommy Hayes landed his fourth penalty four minutes into the second half.
Five minutes later Ulster coach Alan Solomons sent on Andy Ward and his introduction signalled a change in Ulster’s fortunes. Ward crossed for a try on the hour after Ryan Constable had made a glorious break and when David Humphreys converted the sides were level for the second time in the game.

Another successful Humphrey’s kick put the northerners in front and then Glasgow laid siege to the Ulster line in an attempt to snatch victory. Hayes was wide with two penalty attempts and Ulster resisted a series of drives for the line from line-outs to earn themselves another Celtic League semi final date with Munster.
