Irish Rugby TV: Clontarf Win National Inclusion Award

Clontarf Rugby were recently named Sports Club of the Year at the 2018 Cara National Inclusion Awards. They were recognised for their Bulls Programme, an initiative to provide a safe and nurturing rugby environment for children with additional needs. Irish Rugby TV visited the club to find out more.

The programme provides a one to one coach player format for the rugby programme that supports skills such as running, building speed and quickness, footwork, spacial awareness, ball skills and other key elements of the game.  

Ireland international and former Clontarf player Joey Carbery is an active supporter of the programme.

 
The national Inclusion Awards are an initiative aimed at highlighting the outstanding work of people and organisations all over Ireland, who are enhancing participation opportunities for people with disabilities in sport and physical activity.
 
The judging panel for the Cara National Inclusion Awards consisted of experts from the sport, disability, health and education sectors: Benny Cullen (Sport Ireland), Conn McCloskey (Ireland Active), Emer Smyth (HSE), Frances Murphy (DCU), Ger Deegan (Waterford Intellectual Disability Association), Karen Cotter (Active School), Liam Harbison (Sport Ireland Institute), Martina Lanigan (HSE), Matt English (Special Olympics), Sarah Keane (Olympic Federation of Ireland/Swim Ireland), Shane Califf (Sport Ireland, Tomas Aylward (IT Tralee) and Ursula Barrett (IT Tralee).
