Wins for Leinster and Munster

Leinster and Munster continued their unbeaten run in the Heineken Cup tonight with wins over Welsh sides Newport and Bridgend respectively

Leinster and Munster continued their unbeaten run in the Heineken Cup tonight with wins over Welsh sides Newport and Bridgend respectively. Leinster won 21-6 in Donnybrook and Munster carved out a narrow 16-12 win at The Brewery Field.

Leinster went behind to a Shane Howarth penalty but responded with a try from Shane Horgan converted by Nathan Spooner and they held that 7-3 lead until the break. In the second half two Nathan Spooner penalties gave them some breathing space and at the death Peter McKenna – a replacement for Denis Hickie – scored a try in the corner, Spooner’s conversion coming back off the post.

At The Brewery Field in Wales first half tries from Mike Mullins and John Kelly eased Munster to a 13-6 interval lead. However they were made to work hard for their eventual 16-12 victory. Bridgend out-half Craig Warlow landed two penalties to keep his side in touch and Munster had to mount a fierce rearguard action before securing the precious points.
