Supporters Club Night In Flannerys A Huge Success

Supporters Club Night In Flannerys A Huge Success

Tuesday night in Limerick and most of the pubs in the city were quiet but not Jerry Flannery’s bar. It was packed to the brim with members of the Irish Rugby Supporters Club and some famous rugby faces: Donncha O’Callaghan, Tommy Bowe, Stephen Ferris and our host himself, Jerry Flannery.

The Irish Rugby Supporters Club Q&A night in Jerry Flannery’s bar on Tuesday night was a huge success. It was the first Supporters Club event of the season and proved very popular with the members and the players alike.

The first part of the evening saw the Grand Slam trophies on display. The trophies have been on tour since Ireland triumphed in Cardiff last March but for some members it was their first chance to see them and get a picture with them. It proved a hit with young and old alike.

The trophies were then safely tucked away as we waited for the star guests. Shortly after 7.30pm, the doors opened and in walked Donncha O’Callaghan, Stephen Ferris, Tommy Bowe and our host Jerry Flannery.

Tucked into a neat corner in the pub, our MC for the night, IRFU Communications Manager Karl Richardson, threw open the floor to questions from the off.

The questions came thick and fast and the players answered with good humour and honesty throughout the night.

Tommy Bowe was questioned several times about his plans for a new song but claimed he would wait and see what the season held before deciding on an encore for ‘The Black Velvet Band’.

Munster and Ireland lock Donncha O’Callaghan spoke about the sheer joy of winning the Grand Slam and the need now to ‘put that in the locker and look to the next game.’

Ulster and Ireland flanker Stephen Ferris spoke engagingly about his road to professional game through youth rugby, while our host for the night Jerry Flannery spoke about his ambition to play for Ireland since he first put on rugby boots.

Supporters Club members travelled to the event from as far afield as Bangor in County Down and Ardee in County Louth, while a few hardy souls even made the trip from Tipp!

Next up for Supporters Club Members is the ever popular Matchday Event when Ireland play South Africa in the GUINNESS Series later this month.

Following that there is exciting news coming about the Supporters Club Charter – Twickenham this season after the highs of Cardiff in March.

There will also be an announcement soon about tickets for the RBS 6 Nations. Not a member? Just see what you are missing out on!

A big thank you to all the members who came and to the staff of Jerry Flannery’s bar who made the event run so smoothly and of course to Fla, Donncha, Tommy and Fez for brightening up the night!
