ENERGIA WOMEN’S ALL-IRELAND LEAGUE:

UL Bohemian continue to lead the Energia Women’s All-Ireland League on scoring difference after a 46-10 win at home to Cooke. Bohs and Railway are both on a maximum 25 points from five games to date, but Chloe Pearse says the Limerick side are taking nothing for granted.

“Anyone who knows us will know we’re not too delighted. We hold ourselves to very high standards. We really are looking to tighten our defence up. We know we’re very good on one side of the ball. We need to bring that to both sides.”

Pearse is also the leading scorer in the league with a remarkable seven tries in five rounds to date.

Suttonians are up to fifth place in the table thanks to a 41-21 at home to Malone. In the highest scoring game of the round, Molly O’Brien, Molly Fitzgerald and Greer Muir each scored two apiece.

“We’re pretty happy that both of our wingers got a brace and one of the centres got two as well,” said Suttonians Head Coach Rob Forbes. “We’ve been looking looking to put width on the ball and use our backs more effectively. We have good forward dominance at times and we play with good tempo but hadn’t been executing with overlaps and opportunities .

“It’s not an overnight adjustment. It takes work and application and little by little we’re delivering more on that.”

Galwegians put in a vastly improved performance to run Railway Union close at Crowley Park. They managed 22 points including tries from Marina Gray, Nicole Fowley and Mairead Coyne and were within a score of the reigning champions at half time. Railway eventually pulled clear to win 34-22.

Blackrock College and Old Belvedere served up an arm wrestle of a Dublin derby at Stradbrook. Belvo’s strong start proved crucial as they built on a 13-0 lead at half time to win out 25-8. 10 points from the boot of Jemma Jackson helped to keep the home side at arm’s length.
