Galvin Returns To Ireland Women’s Sevens Squad For Dubai 7s

The Ireland Women’s Sevens squad to compete in the second leg of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai this week has been named by Anthony Eddy, the IRFU Director of Women’s & Sevens Rugby.

Ireland kicked off the series with an impressive sixth place finish in Glendale last month and will be led once again by Lucy Mulhall. The squad for Dubai features Brittany Hogan, who is set for her World Series debut having first been capped in September at the Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series in Kazan.

Hogan, who plays with Railway Union and Ulster, has come through the Ireland Sevens pathway, firstly representing her country at Under-18 level and twelve months ago she was part of the Ireland Development side that played at the International Invitational tournament in Dubai.

Louise Galvin also returns to the squad having missed out on the series opener due to injury. Ireland’s Dubai pool includes New Zealand, Russia and invitational team Kenya, with European rivals Russia first up on Thursday.

Ahead of the squad’s departure for the United Arab Emirates, Anthony Eddy said: “We are all looking forward to the tournament, the girls have had a good preparation and I think they are now just excited about playing again and competing at this level.

“The Dubai Sevens is a great event on the World Series circuit – there’s always a great atmosphere and there is always a good turnout of Irish supporters, so I know the players are looking forward to the competition and showing what they can do.”

The action over Thursday and Friday will be streamed live via World Rugby and you can keep up with the team’s time in Dubai using the hashtag #IreW7s and on the Irish Rugby social media channels. For more information on the Dubai 7s, or to buy tickets, please visit www.dubairugby7s.com.
