four wins out of five on a weekend at a world cup is pretty good. delighted with that. it was a tough game to finish on, obviously australia put it up to us but it was nice to come out on the right side of the result.
it’s been an incredible tournament, playing in this kind of a ground, in front of this kind of a crowd just makes it really special. to be able to run down and lift the trophy in front of all the parents and the fans was really great.
obviously we were gutted for the girls last night, they were unlucky to lose to spain. but they’ve put in some huge performances this year and they really set the bar for us. i just want to say, personally, well done to them on a great year.
we all dreamed of a world cup being big but it’s exceeded our expectations hugely. just the crowd, the stadium, the way it’s been broadened it’s just been fantastic. a lot of people put a lot of effort into it, the support staff around the stadium have been amazing. it’s ran really smoothly and it’s just been a great tournament. we’ve really enjoyed it, and obviously success helps.
It’s pretty amazing. We came over here to do a job, we wanted to win it. Not making the last-eight was disappointing but I think four wins out of five is huge, especially beating three core teams on the World Series. That’s the standard that we aspire to play at.
winning two games today, two massive games, and being able to lift the trophy in front of all the travelling support, our parents and all the supporters around san francisco. it was a really special moment for us, we’re just delighted. it’s been a long season for us, we’ve been through a lot of ups and down, played a lot of tournaments.
we were unlucky not to qualify for the world series in hong kong this year, but it was great to show a bit of character, have a few good performances in the world series in london and paris and then be able to put in some performances in rugby europe and then come on to this and perform the way we did.
