Support ‘Wheels In Green’ For Their First Ever Wheelchair Rugby World Championship

Ireland’s Wheelchair Rugby team are getting ready to play in their first ever Wheelchair Rugby World Championship in Sydney, Australia from August 2-10. You can support the #WheelsInGreen with donations and messages of support in the lead up to the tournament.

Irish Wheelchair Rugby attended the first ever Wheelchair Rugby World Championship qualifying tournament in Nottwil, Switzerland in April. The Ireland team were the lowest seeds there but went on to win all of their matches, defeating New Zealand for the first time in history as they completed a clean sweep of victories.

The team’s trip to the forthcoming Wheelchair Rugby World Championship is not cheap, costing €;4,000 per person. They lack the necessary funding so are reliant on fundraising events such as sponsored cycles, table quizzes, bag-packs, bucket collections and the goodwill of friends and family.

One such fundraising drive is taking place this Sunday (July 15) as one of Ireland’s foremost Wheelchair Rugby players, John McCarthy, is doing a sponsored marathon push in his hometown of Dunmanway, Co. Cork.

Let’s get behind John and his team-mates as the #WheelsInGreen take on the world. To donate to this great cause and support John in his fundraising mission, click here for his iDonate page and please give what you can.

You can keep up with all the latest news from Irish Wheelchair Rugby before and during the World Championship on their Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages.
