On The Road With The Ireland 7s – Episode 4 – Kitakyushu 7s

The fourth episode of the ‘On The Road with the Ireland 7s’ series is now live. We were in Japan with the Ireland Women’s Sevens squad as they competed in the third round of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series at the Kitakyushu 7s.

From gym sessions (at 4am Irish time). the captains’ photocall in the grounds of the historic Kokura Castle to competing in the stunning Mikuni World Stadium. Go behind-the-scenes with the players and discover how their weekend progresses at the Kitakyushu 7s.

The highlight of the tournament for Ireland was their first ever win over Canada – a 24-19 extra-time victory which was dramatically sealed by new cap Kathy Baker’s first try at this level. Fellow teenager Eve Higgins joined her as a first-time World Series try scorer in the narrow Challenge Trophy final defeat to the USA.

Although disappointed with their 10th place finish, the girls in green still drew encouragement from their wins over Spain and Canada, while they went very close to beating the US. Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe took her Irish try-scoring record in the World Series to 41 tries, making it ten in 16 games this season.

On The Road With The Ireland 7s: Episode 4 – Kitakyushu 7s

The Ireland Men’s and Women’s Sevens squads are on the journey of a lifetime as they prepare for the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournaments in San Francisco in July. Irish Rugby TV is following the two teams as they traverse the globe for their Sevens dream. Episode 3 – Hong Kong: We take you into camp with the Ireland Men’s Sevens squad at the world-famous Hong Kong 7s, as they sought to qualify for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. A fingertip away from a final, and an experience none of Anthony Eddy’s side will forget.

Episode 2 – Sydney: We follow the Ireland Women’s Sevens squad at the Sydney 7s tournament in January as they claim seventh place, matching their best ever finish since returning to the World Series in 2015

Episode 1 – Dubai: We followed both Ireland teams at the Dubai 7s as the Women’s team competed in their opening Women’s Sevens Series competition, and the Men’s outfit took part in the Dubai 7s International Invitational tournament
