Sevens Internationals Set For League Final Face-Off

Sevens Internationals Set For League Final Face-Off

They train and play together in the green of Ireland for the Men’s Sevens team, but on Sunday Foster Horan and Shane Daly will go toe-to-toe in the Ulster Bank League Division 1A final at the Aviva Stadium (kick-off 3pm).

Both players featured in the Ireland Men’s Sevens squad that travelled to Hong Kong last month for a shot at World Series qualification, and both have gained invaluable big-game experience as part of the IRFU Sevens Programme.

Lansdowne winger Foster Horan feels that his Sevens experience has really helped him improve his game and to become even more of an attacking weapon for the headquarters club.

“Coming back from Hong Kong I played in the Bateman Cup final (against Cork Con) and the intensity was right up there,” he told Irish Rugby TV. “Playing with the Ireland Sevens team has been an incredible experience – you get the ball in your hand a lot more and there’s a really good coaching staff involved.”

It has been a busy season for Cork Constitution Shane Daly – lining out for the Leesiders in the league, pulling on the green jersey as part of the Ireland Men’s Sevens squad and most recently he bagged a place on the Munster bench.

The versatile 21-year-old back is relishing the prospect of playing in his third successive Ulster Bank League final, saying: “It is great to be here again – it has been a long season and these finals are not easy to get to.

“I think it was playing in these big games for Con that got me noticed and got me into the IRFU Sevens Programme, and playing Sevens means you have to adapt your game because you are exposed to things much quicker. I think it has been good for my game overall.”
