Job Vacancy: Elite Referees Manager – GUINNESS PRO12

Celtic Rugby are currently recruiting for the position of Elite Referees Manager for the GUINNESS PRO12 Championship.

Ed Morrison, currently Independent Referee Appointments Commissioner, will retire from his position at the end of the current season and Celtic Rugby wish to appoint his successor ahead of the 2017/18 campaign to carry on the sterling progress made by Morrison.

The successful candidate will have refereed at the highest levels of the professional game (International, European Cup or Super Rugby), will possess robust managerial credentials and display excellent communication skills.

This person will be responsible for GUINNESS PRO12 match appointments, review and development of officials and managing the identification process of emerging refereeing talent.

Candidates must display an understanding of working within a complex multi-union environment whilst also ensuring there is a clear and effective line of communication with the coaches of GUINNESS PRO12 teams.

Additionally, the role will require constant engagement with the unions’ referee managers and officiating representatives from World Rugby, EPCR, PRL Top 14 and Super Rugby.

The successful candidate will be tasked with assisting Celtic Rugby to achieve the following goals for the GUINNESS PRO12 Championship:

  • All match referees to become full-time professionals
  • Ensure quality of referee talent to ensure all appointments (Referee, AR1, AR2 and TMO) are neutral
  • To reach an investment agreement across all participant unions for a common and co-ordinated development plan

Additionally, a key objective will be to carry out a full review of the current officiating structure within the GUINNESS PRO12 Championship and provide recommendations to ensure consistent, high-level performances from tournament officials.
