Munster Assess Injuries Ahead Of Dragons Match
The Munster squad have commenced preparations for next Saturday’s GUINNESS PRO12 round 3 tie against the Newport Gwent Dragons.
In looking ahead to the Rodney Parade encounter, Munster director of rugby Rassie Erasmus confirmed that returning internationals Conor Murray and Keith Earls will be available for selection this week, while Tyler Bleyendaal should also be back in the mix after recovering from a mild calf strain.
In reviewing the injuries from last Friday’s defeat to Cardiff Blues, it was confirmed that Tommy O’Donnell sustained a concussion with the flanker currently following the return-to-play protocols, while Rory Scannell’s neck injury was not as bad as first feared and the centre continues to be monitored by the medical team this week.
The news may not be as positive for Dave Foley who sustained an elbow injury. After undergoing a scan, the Tipperary lock requires further consultation with the specialist.
Meanwhile, the province’s latest signing, centre Jaco Taute, has linked up with the squad, however this Saturday’s game in Newport comes too early for squad inclusion.
Finally, with injuries at hooker, former Melbourne Rebels and Leinster player Tom Sexton is currently on trial with the squad.
Continuing to rehab are Simon Zebo (ribs), Kevin O’Byrne (elbow), Peter O’Mahony (knee), Sam Arnold (knee), Mark Chisholm (concussion), Sean McCarthy (knee), Francis Saili (shoulder) and Mike Sherry (back).
On the Academy front, year two back rower Ollie Lyons has completed his time with the programme.
