Girls Sevens Squad Named For UK School Games

A 12-strong Girls Sevens squad has been named to take part in the UK School Games which take place in Loughborough University on September 2-4.

The UK School Games Rugby Sevens tournament is a women-only tournament with eight teams representing Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland with regional and development sided set to battle it out in two pools before heading to the knockout stages on the third day.

The girls have been part of a wider Girls Sevens squad that is preparing for the Rugby Europe tournament in Vichy, France on September 10-11.

Eimear Corri (Portlaoise) and Brittany Hogan (Ballynahinch) have experience of the tournament having featured at the games last year.

The selected squad also includes Railway Union’s Eve Higgins who missed out on the 2015 tournament after suffering an injury just prior to departure.

Eve is one of a number of aspiring young players to feature in the new #GiveItATry videos that encourage women and girls to get involved in rugby.

Another #GiveItATry girl is Megan Burns, who was part of the Sacred Heart Tullamore side that won the inaugural GX7s at the Aviva Stadium earlier this year.
