Ulster Bank Junior Cup Semi-Final Draw

Ulster Bank Junior Cup Semi-Final Draw

The semi-final draw for the Ulster Bank All-Ireland Junior Cup has been made. Former winners Enniscorthy have been drawn at home to Bangor, while Instonians host Clogher Valley in a mouth-watering all-Ulster affair.

The draw was made at IRFU HQ today following last weekend’s quarter-final matches. Former winners Enniscorthy, who knocked out Ashbourne last Saturday, are at home to a Bangor side that saw off Monkstown with a strong second half display.

The other semi-final is a crunch provincial derby with Instonians, fresh from their 48-14 victory over St. Senan’s, at home to Clogher Valley who impressively put Clonmel to the sword last Saturday.

Enniscorthy are bidding to become only the second club to win the trophy more than once. Tullamore were cup specialists before their promotion to the Ulster Bank League, winning the title three times  – 2009, 2012 and 2013.

The odds on an Ulster club being crowned champions must be good with three northern sides in the last-four. Rainey Old Boys won the inaugural cup in 2006, while City of Derry were the last club to bring the cup north in 2010.

Enniscorthy and Clogher Valley played in the 2014 final with the Leinster club edging it on a 10-9 margin. The forthcoming semi-finals will take place on Saturday, December 12, kicking off at 2.30pm.
