Women’s All-Ireland Cup Finals Preview

HIghfield have reaached their fourth consecutive Women’s All-Ireland Cup final, but can they seal another title against newcomers Railway Union on Saturday?

The finals action takes place at St. Mary’s College RFC in Templeville Road this Saturday. The Plate final kicks off at 12pm with Old Belvedere J1 against Rathdrum. This is followed by the Shield final at 1pm where host club St. Mary’s take on Queen’s University, while the main event kicks off at 3.30pm.

Highfield’s 12-5 win over UL Bohemians means they contest the final for the fourth year in a row – a truly remarkable feat in cup rugby.

The Cork side lost the 2012 final to Galwegians but went on to beat UL Bohemians in the 2013 decider. Last year they lost to Galwegians once again.

That experience will stand to them when they play the rising stars of Railway Union who beat Blackrock on a 19-13 scoreline in the other semi-final.

In the Shield competition, Queen’s, who had a walkover to the final, will face a St. Mary’s side who beat New Ross 19-5.

In the Plate, Old Belvedere’s J1 side booked their place in the final by beating Enniskillen 21-15. Providing the opposition this weekend will be an ever-improving Rathdrum outfit.
