Rugby fans will be glad to hear that Irish language broadcaster TG4 will provide extensive coverage of the Women’s Rugby World Cup from Paris next month.
TG4’s coverage will include live broadcasts of all three of Ireland’s matches in Pool B against New Zealand, USA and Kazakhstan and live coverage of the semi-finals and final.
A minimum of six matches in total will be broadcast live on TG4. The tournament begins in Paris on Friday, August 1 with Ireland playing USA at 4pm that day.
The Women’s Rugby World Cup is the premier international competition in rugby union for women. The tournament is organised by the sport’s governing body, the International Rugby Board (IRB).
The competition is currently held every four years – the most recent was in England in 2010. The first Women’s Rugby World Cup was held in 1991, and won by the USA. The current world champions and the most successful team are New Zealand.
TG4’s Sports Editor Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said: “We are thrilled to be providing rugby fans all over the country with coverage of this major rugby competition as well as enhancing TG4’s well-established policy of providing women’s sport with the profile it deserves on free to view national television.”
