The Women’s Rugby World Cup is the premier international competition in rugby union for women. The tournament is organised by the sport’s governing body, the International Rugby Board (IRB).

The competition is currently held every four years – the most recent was in England in 2010. The first Women’s Rugby World Cup was held in 1991, and won by the USA. The current world champions and the most successful team are New Zealand.

TG4’s Sports Editor Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said: “We are thrilled to be providing rugby fans all over the country with coverage of this major rugby competition as well as enhancing TG4’s well-established policy of providing women’s sport with the profile it deserves on free to view national television.”
