NUIM Barnhall Provide Summer Fun With ‘Tag For Teens’ Initiative
Last Wednesday was the opening night of NUIM Barnhall RFC’s ‘Tag for Teens’ initiative, with close to 60 teenagers from Celbridge, Leixlip, Maynooth, Lucan and Ballyfermot all taking part at Parsonstown.
‘Tag for Teens’ is on every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm at Parsonstown and is run by NUIM Barnhall RFC’s top club coaches.
You can meet new friends, hang out with old friends, learn the great game of Tag rugby and have a great time learning it.
‘Tag for Teens’ is open to boys and girls aged 13 to 17 and will be taking place at the club for the next five weeks. All are welcome and it is a game suitable for all levels of fitness and skill.
Newcomers are always welcome at NUIM Barnhall and last Wednesday there was an abundance of coaches and volunteers on hand to help the new players learn the essential skills of passing, receiving and running into space.
There is also great music on the night and a barbecue fired up every Wednesday, so you have no excuses. The cost to take part is €;2 which includes your burger and a soft drink each week.

Temperatures in the mid-20s and long sunny evenings mean the Tag rugby season is back at NUIM Barnhall. Off the pitch last Wednesday, the barbecue was lit and the tunes were playing over the PA system whilst on the pitch the matches were fast and fun.
There was a great blend of experienced players and players new to the game. Some had never played any form of rugby before!
Tag rugby is a non-contact form of rugby and is played in teams of seven players. There must be a minimum of three girls per team although there may be more, with passing, teamwork and running into space very much the focus. Girls are awarded three points per try whilst boys are awarded one point per try.
On pitch one Kayleigh Nolan and Shauna Kelly from St. Dominic’s Secondary School were on fire, making some great runs and passing well, whilst Hollie Leach from Celbridge, Lorna Hallinan from Leixlip and Alison McMurray from Lucan all shone as stars of the future.
Jamie Burke and Max Saunders showed their experience with some skilful play, setting up scores for their less experienced team-mates as well as grabbing a few tries themselves.
