Schmidt Stars At Salmo Eagles Blitz

Schmidt Stars At Salmo Eagles Blitz

At the recent end of season blitz held by the ‘Salmo Eagles’ at Kirwan Park, friends from the Mullingar Lions and Seapoint Dragons visited De La Salle Palmerston FC to take part in what was thoroughly enjoyable tournament where everybody was a winner!

The encouragement given to all three teams as they proudly wore their respective club jerseys was great to see, as a very large group of friends and family of the players cheered them all on.

Unknown to the players, a very special guest was present watching them play, who would later present each player individually with their medal.

And to do a task like that, who better than Ireland’s Six Nations-winning head coach Joe Schmidt who is also the official patron of the Mullingar Lions.

Joe excelled as an ambassador for Irish rugby at the Salmo Eagles Blitz, taking time to talk individually with each player when presenting them with their medal and also posing for a personal photograph with each player.

The success of this tournament truly was another major step forward for Disability Tag rugby at a time when the IRFU officially recognised the work of Disability rugby.

Special thanks to all the coaches, families, friends, supporters and players for making the event so successful. Also thanks to Martin Nunan and Eoin Hogan who attended on the day.

Lastly, a very special mention for DLSP resident in-house photographer Paul Allen, who took photos of the highest quality of the medal presentation and the tournament which were then given as souvenirs to each attendee.
