Speakers Confirmed For Conditioning Coach Course

The IRFU today announced the line-up of speakers and tutors for their annual ‘Certified Conditioning Coach’ courses which take place in July.

The CCC is a practical hands-on course where you will learn and practice the many drills and exercises that are appropriate for conditioning rugby players at all levels.

There are two courses running in 2014. The first is in Dublin City University (DCU) from June 30 to July 4. The second is at the Limerick Institute of Technology, Limerick from July 14 to 18.

The list of speakers and tutors for 2014 includes several highly experienced fitness and conditioning practitioners and IRFU staff with hands on experience in the professional game.

Ian Jeffreys is a highly experienced coach, author, academic and presenter, and an acknowledged worldwide leader in the field of sport specific speed and agility development. He will deliver the ‘Gamespeed for Rugby‘ module.

Munster Rugby head of fitness Adam Trypas will give a guest presentation on the Munster Rugby strength & conditioning programme at the Limerick course.

Dan Tobin, head of fitness with Leinster Rugby, will give a guest presentation on the Leinster Rugby strength & conditioning programme at the Dublin course.

Cathal Byrd is a highly experienced competitive weightlifter and active strength & conditioning coach. Cathal has a degree in physical education from the University of Limerick and is a certified weightlifting coach. He will present on ‘Implementing Strength Training in Schools Rugby‘ and will be an assisting tutor on the strength training module.

Eamonn Flanagan will deliver ‘Strength Training for Rugby‘ and other modules throughout the course. Eamonn is the IRFU Academy strength & conditioning co-ordinator and the lead S&C coach to the Ireland Under-20 squad.

Kevin Craddock has a wealth of experience as a strength & conditioning coach and educator at all levels of the game of rugby. He was the head of fitness at Connacht Rugby for three years and has also worked as a senior S&C coach at Connacht and an Academy S&C coach at Leinster. Kevin will deliver ‘The Demands of the Game’, ‘Warm-Up and Movement Skills‘ and other modules.
