‘Progress Made’ In European Rugby Talks

The possibility of a new six-country European Cup competition taking place next season moved a step closer today following a meeting between representatives of the Six Nations Unions, the English and French clubs and Welsh regions.

A short statement issued afterwards on behalf of the Six Nations read: “A positive meeting took place in Paris today between the Six Nations Unions and club representatives from LNR (Ligue Nationale de Rugby), PRL (Premier Rugby Limited) and RRW (Regional Rugby Wales).

“The meeting was constructive and progress was made, with all parties working towards a European competition.”

Today’s meeting is the second get-together between the European rugby stakeholders in the space of a week. The representatives from the various bodies also met in London last Tuesday.
