Referee O’Reilly ‘Delighted’ With Six Nations Appointments

Helen O’Reilly has been appointed to referee two fixtures in the upcoming Women’s RBS 6 Nations. Helen will take charge of France v England in Grenoble on Saturday, February 1 and then later that month Wales v France in Port Talbot on Sunday, February 23.

It is onwards and upwards for IRFU Women’s referee Helen O’Reilly. This is her second Six Nations Championship having refereed England v Italy and France v Scotland in last year’s tournament.

More recently she refereed England v France at Twickenham in November with the match televised on Sky Sports.

In total there were nine referees chosen for this year’s Women’s RBS 6 Nations by the IRB Women’s Match Official Selection Committee following a detailed review of recent performances.

Referee preparation for the Six Nations Championship included a three-day camp in Marcoussis, France, which is a host venue for the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup next October.

Back home Helen is preparing hard and is benefiting from IRFU conditioning and diet programmes along with regular referee technical coaching from the IRFU Referee Department.

A very happy Helen said: “I am truly delighted with the appointments. 2013 was a really enjoyable year for me and I learned so much. I am looking to push on even further in 2014.

“I have to again thank the IRFU Referee Department which has been a massive support to me over the past few seasons.”

We wish Helen all the best in her preparation and in her matches.

Anyone interested in refereeing should contact the IRFU Referee Development officer in their province. Contact details can be found here.
