Howlett To Take Up Munster Ambassador Role

Retired Munster captain and former All Black Doug Howlett is back on board with the province as a Corporate Ambassador.

Doug Howlett, who was forced to retire from the professional game at the end of last season due to a shoulder injury, has remained in Cork with his family and is working closely with the Munster Rugby Commercial Board that was formed last March.

The record try scorer for the All Blacks has been involved in professional rugby for fifteen years, during which time he played for Super Rugby sides the Highlanders, the Hurricanes and the Blues before joining Munster in January 2008.

As a professional athlete Howlett has negotiated numerous commercial opportunities over the years with regards his own playing contracts and personal endorsements, and he will now call on this experience and acquired skills for the benefit of his adopted home club.

This newly created role is one of a number of initiatives proposed by the Munster Rugby Commercial Board and for now the charismatic winger will look to secure corporate support for the province.

There will be a further announcement on other exciting commercial developments instigated by the Board in the coming weeks.

Chairman of the Commercial Board Niall FitzGerald KBE, who has been instrumental in Doug’s appointment, said: “As the Ambassador for Munster Rugby, Doug will bring the tactical insight, special skill and outstanding leadership that marked him as a player.

“The Commercial Board is greatly strengthened by this exciting addition to the team.”

Commenting on the role, Howlett added: “I am thrilled to continue my association with Munster Rugby. I am excited by my new team and this new challenge. I look forward to helping Munster Rugby remain at the forefront of European rugby.”
