Navan To Host Ladies Day Festival Of Rugby

Navan Rugby Football Club has a long and very successful history at both senior and youths’ levels, but now the Balreask club are breaking new ground in the ladies game with a Ladies Day festival this Sunday.

Navan RFC is one of a handful of clubs in the country to have girls playing from under 7’s through to under 18’s and a full senior ladies squad.

The club’s senior ladies team not only compete in the All-Ireland League but are also the current holders of the Connacht Plate. At youth grades the Navan girls compete in the Leinster U15’s and U18’s Leagues and the little ladies play tag rugby at U9, U11 & U13.

This summer they competed in the Community Games.

Navan has a long history of providing representative players at both Provincial and National levels. This tradition is being continued by Jennie Finlay who is involved with the Ireland Rugby 7’s Squad and Maedbh Smyth who is training with the Leinster U18’s squad.

Next Sunday the 10th of November will see the first Lady’s Day at NRFC, the U11 & U13 minis will kick off a day of girls and ladies rugby at 10:30. The day will continue with the U15 & U18 Leinster League matches and will conclude with the AIL match up of NRFC Ladies v Cill Dara at 1:00 pm.

Food and entertainment will be served in equal measure throughout the day and on the day NRFC are delighted to be associated with the Meath Women’s Refuge, with proceeds going to this worthwhile organisation.
