Women’s AIL Round Up

Women’s AIL Round Up

Defending champions UL Bohs got off to a flying start in the Women’s All Ireland League last weekend with a big win over Portlaoise. Grassroots rugby website Knockon.ie brings us a round up of all the action.

In  comparison to last season’s opening weekend, there were closely fought victories in three of the four contests this time round.

UL Bohemians stuck to the form book to demolish debutantes Portlaoise, claiming top spot in doing so. A seven try blitz saw the perennial favourites establish their early season credentials with a stadn out performance from Grand Slam winner Fiona Hayes.

Old Belvedere improved on last year’s one point victory over Highfield, the latter celebrating the return of former international outhalf Helen Brosnan to the fold; a welcome boost to the league in general.

A revived Blackrock capitalised on naive Galwegian play to edge a very defensive encounter, Tania Rosser’s brace sinking the visitors.

Meanwhile St Mary’s claimed a dramatic last-gasp win over visitors Tralee to conclude a very entertaining day’s play all round, Paula Fitzpatrick returning from injury to dictate the result with two tries.
