The IRFU run Certified ‘Conditioning Coach’ Course gives coaches at every level a better understanding of the fitness and conditioning requirements for rugby as well as providing a platform for those interested in furthering their knowledge of strength and conditioning.
Originally conceived by Liam Hennessy, then head of fitness with the IRFU and now Director of Setanta College and an acknowledged expert in the field, the course has been running since 2002.
Now under the direction of Kevin Craddock, the course has evolved over the years and now includes a mix of theory and practical modules as well as presentations on the wider role of conditioning within rugby.
The week long course is designed to give coaches a better understanding of fitness and conditioning and the building block to put together their own programmes relevant to their players.
From the Coach of the U14s in a Junior Rugby club to an aspiring Strength & Conditioning coach this course offers a foundation from which to improve.
There have been three week long courses this summer and if you add up the attendees over the years there are over a thousand coaches out there who have benefitted from this world class course.
Better coaches make better players and provide a platform for every player to achieve their potential.
