O’Driscoll: We’re In A Great Place, Let’s Do It In Two

In the latest edition of HSBC’s Lions Weekly – a video round-up of all the news from the British & Irish Lions tour – Brian O’Driscoll is interviewed by his room-mate from the 2001 tour to Australia, Jason Robinson, as the pair chat about the first Test win over the Wallabies and the remainder of the series.

The video from Down Under features an exclusive interview with Brian O’Driscoll the morning after last Saturday’s first Test, as well as views from former Wallaby winger Joe Roff, two-time Lions tourist Jason Robinson and former Wallaby scrum half George Gregan.

Asked about being an elder statesman of the tour this time around, Ireland centre O’Driscoll told HSBC’s Lions Weekly: “It’s strange, you are genuinely able to call on the experiences and largely the disappointments of the past and of previous tours to let guys know when the opportunity arises you have really got to take it.

“Maybe I was a bit naive in 2001 when we lost the Test series 2-1, I was 22-years-old and I thought there’ll be other chances, we’ll get another crack at it.

“Well I’ve had two other chances and nothing’s come to fruition so fourth time round we just have to win this series, and we’re in a great place – 50% there now, so just have to finish it off, that was the little bit of chat after the game (in Brisbane).

“This isn’t a three Test series, this is a two Test series, do it in two. It’s a hell of a lot easier to win it in two because you piggy back the momentum of the first win but if you lose that second then they have the momentum going into the third. There’s so much focus, not about Melbourne and then Sydney but just Melbourne.”
