Buckley And Naoupu Resume Training With Connacht

The Connacht squad trained today ahead of their Round 15 RaboDirect PRO 12 clash with defending champions, the Ospreys, on Friday.

There were a few knocks and bruises following the disappointing defeat away to the Scarlets last Friday, but head coach Eric Elwood is hopeful that he will have a large squad to choose from for this home fixture.

Denis Buckley returned to training following a medial ligament injury to his knee. After a good pitch session today, the 22-year-old prop will be available for selection this week.

While George Naoupu returned to light training yesterday, the versatile forward is waiting to see a specialist for his neck and is unlikely to be involved as soon as Friday night.

Andrew Browne injured his ankle during the 25-15 loss to the Scarlets. He underwent a scan today and the results will determine his participation for the remainder of the week.

Recent returnees Gavin Duffy, Willie Faloon, Eoin McKeon, John Muldoon and Kyle Tonetti were all given game-time in Llanelli and continue to train ahead of the Ospreys match.

Meanwhile, Ireland lock Mike McCarthy picked up a strain to the medial ligament in his right knee during the Six Nations defeat to England on Sunday.

He is ruled out of provincial action this week and is considered doubtful for the Scotland game in two weeks’ time. The second row will see a specialist this week for further review.

The famous Clan Stand is almost sold out for the Connacht-Ospreys game at the Sportsground (kick-off 7.45pm), but tickets are still available on Ticketmaster.ie and from the Connacht Rugby offices.

Admission is just €;20 for adults and €;5 for juniors (kids under 12 go free, must be accompanied by an adult).
