Draw for 2012/13 Ulster Bank Junior Cup

Draw for 2012/13 Ulster Bank Junior Cup

The draw for the 2012/13 Ulster Bank All Ireland Junior Cup took place at the IRFU offices on Lansdowne Road today. The draw was made by Stephen Hilditch, Domestic Game Chairman and Ian McILrath, Chairman of the All Ireland League Committee.

The draw threw up some exciting cross provincial clashes, with reigning champions and two time winners Tullamore opening their defence of the coveted trophy with a match against Ulster side Ballymoney.

Last season’s beaten finalists Monivea, who narrowly missed out on qualification for the Ulster Bank League at the end of last season will open their cup campaign against former winners, Crosshaven. The Cork team in fact beat Monivea 17- 9 in the 2011 final in Templeville Road.

No teams from the same province can be drawn against each other in the opening round which ensures that these inter provincial matches bring together new match ups every season.

Previous winners have used the Ulster Bank Junior Cup as a platform for attaining Ulster Bank League status with Rainey OB (2006), Seapoint (2007), Navan (2008) and City of Derry (2010) all going on to gain promotion.

With open draws for all of the remaining rounds, the quarter final games take place on December 15th. The Semi finals are set for January 26th and the final down for decision on February 9th,
