Friday Night Lights To Kick Off Ulster Bank League

Friday Night Lights To Kick Off Ulster Bank League

A triple header of top flight Friday Night Lights matches will kick off the 2012-13 season in the Ulster Bank League as the fixtures are announced.

Following the thrilling conclusion to Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League last season, which saw Dublin club St.Mary’s College crowned as champions on the final day, the new fixtures for the 2012-13 season for Division 1A and the other three divisions were announced today.

The new season will see an increased number of ‘Friday Night Lights’ games, which have proved to be a huge success in recent seasons in attracting increased crowds to clubs, being included in the League calendar.

The season opens on Friday, September 28th at Dooradoyle, which will be lighting up for a Limerick v Cork clash as Garryowen host Dolphin.

Meanwhile across the city there is a mouth watering Limerick derby in prospect as Shannon host Young Munster. The third night game takes place in Dublin and sees Old Belvedere hosting Lansdowne at Anglesea Road.

The corresponding game last season was the first ever club match played in Aviva Stadium and was also streamed live on Irish Rugby TV.

Reigning champions St. Mary’s College will open their title defence the following day in Templeville Road when they play the newly promoted UL Bohemians.

Division 1B also gets underway on Friday night with the newly promoted Malone at home to Dungannon and in Division 2A Old Wesley will play Seapoint under lights in Donnybrook.

Ulster Bank League newcomers Skerries will open their league campaign with a trip to Belfast to play Instonians in Division 2B.

Throughout the campaign, Irish Rugby TV will also be broadcasting live games and highlights from matches on YouTube.  Last season’s historic game between Lansdowne and Old Belvedere was watched live online by over 4,000 viewers.
