A Mid-Tag Season Postcard from Sligo RFC

A Mid-Tag Season Postcard from Sligo RFC

Week 5 of Volkswagen Tag Rugby in Hamilton Park was unfortunately a very wet one! The rain would simply just not give up all evening and despite a number of venues being cancelled throughout the country, each Sligo Tag Team braved it out on the pitch and all the games went ahead.

The Strandvestites took on the Rugger Bandits at 6.30pm, a close game which was always going to be the case with the Strandvestites missing some key players, and the constant downpours for the evening! Although the half time score was a draw, the Strandvestites took the win thanks to Cliona O’Kelly’s 3 tries in the second half! The Supermodels were against the newly formed “Pimp my Side” Tag Team. Again another tough battle with Leona Moran’s team taking yet another victory. The Pimp My Side team have yet to lose a game and they certainly completed the 5 weeks with 5 wins, making the final score of Pimp My Side 21 to the Supermodels 11.

With a quick turn around, the 7.15pm games got under way with no hesitation! The Cartron Cowboys being in their second season were up against Fairly Lively captained by Gary Smith. Cowboys by name and certainly by nature on the pitch, as they had a convincing win against the Livelys, who although are not new to the game have added a number of new players to their panel this year. With Dominic Storey captaining the Cartron Cowboys, they took a good win 15 to 7.

It looked like the rain was staying put for the evening and the 8.00pm games saw no difference. The Chancers led by Dean Flanagan were up against the Untouchables, captained by Pauline Sweeney who along with her fellow team mates including Eoin Rochford found it to be a very close game this week. Perhaps due to the weather, it was a very low scoring game which remained neck-and-neck throughout. The Untouchables however just scoped the win by 1 point, with the final score being the Chancers 3 – the Untouchables 4.
