Support The Girls In Green In Ashbourne

A new-look Ireland Women’s team, including new caps Ashleigh Baxter and Sophie Spence, will take on Wales in their Six Nations opener on Friday. The girls in green have made Ashbourne RFC a formidable home in recent years, with wins there over France, Italy, Wales and Scotland.

The Fiona Coghlan-captained Ireland side have been drawing bigger crowds year-on-year to Ashbourne RFC, and the 2012 campaign looks set to be an exciting one with Wales, Italy and Scotland all visiting the County Meath venue.

Ready to lead the team into battle against the Welsh on Friday night, Coghlan said: “We love playing in Ashbourne. The pitch is excellent and the community around there really get behind us.

“We have a good enough record there, so three home matches for us is something for us to really look forward to.”

With a good-sized crowd expected this weekend, Ashbourne’s hon. secretary Bill Duggan commented: “On behalf of Ashbourne RFC I would like to encourage as many people as possible to come and support the Irish Women’s team in the upcoming Internationals.

“We have seen some great games and performances from this team and they deserve the support. So come and see at least one of their games, if not all, as they try to bring home a Six Nations title to Ireland.

“We are very proud to be hosting the team for this year’s series of games, against Wales on February 3, Italy on February 24 and Scotland on March 9. All games will kick off at 7.30pm.”

Admission to the Ireland Women’s matches is €;20 per car or €;10 per adult and €;5 per child.

There will be a coach to all of the Women’s games leaving Old Belvedere RFC (Anglesea Road, Dublin 4) approximately an hour before kick-off. It is open to anyone.

The coach will return to Old Belvedere, making one stop in the city centre, approximately three hours after the match ends.

Return fare is €;20 and includes your ticket into the match and two free bottles at the bar. Please contact Jenny on 0833766401 with any questions

Ashbourne is situated in the southern tip of Meath near the Dublin border and 35 minutes outside of Dublin city Centre. There are regular bus services from the city centre and it is easily accessible.
