Jones Assumes Domestic Rugby Manager Role With Connacht

Lyndon Jones will oversee the operation of all club, schools, youth and mini programmes within Connacht Rugby and the co-ordination of the Community Rugby Officers across the five counties in the province.

Jones has been working for Connacht Rugby for the past four years and has built up a vast knowledge of all areas of domestic rugby in his time out west.

Originally from Gorey, County Wexford, he joined Connacht from Ulster Rugby where he was a Community Rugby Development Officer in an area which included Derry city, Limavady and Strabane.

He holds a degree in Sports Management from UCD and is a qualified level 2 rugby coach having successfully completed the mini, foundation and level 1 modules.

He joined Connacht in 2007 as a Regional Development Officer, covering the north of the province including Sligo, Leitrim and the northern parts of Galway and Roscommon, before being promoted to the role of Community Rugby Manager in 2009.

Over the last two years, Lyndon has been in charge of organising the child welfare courses, Garda vetting, club excellence awards and schools rugby, amongst many other duties. He has an in-depth knowledge of the club rugby scene in Connacht.

A keen sportsman himself, he has played out-half for Westport RFC for the past number of seasons.

Speaking about the appointment, CEO of Connacht Rugby Gerry Kelly said: “We are delighted that Lyndon has been appointed as our new Domestic Rugby Manager.

“Over the past number of years he has proven he has all the technical abilities for the role. It is great that someone from within our own structures was chosen, through a very stringent recruitment procedure.

“It reflects on the hard work Lyndon has put in over the years. He has huge experience within the organisation and has built up some very good relationships with the clubs across the province and I am sure he will take his enthusiasm and energy into the new role.”

Jones himself is equally excited about the new job, stating: “I’m thrilled to be appointed to this role. It’s a huge step in my career and though there are many challenges ahead, I am looking forward to using my experience to deal with them as they crop up.

“There is a great team of people working for Connacht Rugby across the province and I’m really looking forward to working with my colleagues to help develop rugby in every area, from minis, referees and youths right the way through to senior level.”
