‘Belvo Ladies To Hold Open Day

Old Belvedere Ladies will hold an open day for new players on Thursday, August 18 in the club. If you are interested in Women’s rugby, have played Tag or just want to get involved, then get down to Anglesea Road!

The Old Belvedere Ladies have seen a dramatic growth in the last twelve months, and are on the lookout for new players to join their two teams.

Last season, as well as being promoted to the Women’s All-Ireland League Division 1, the squad decided to expand into a second development side. As a result, Old Belvedere was the only club in Leinster to boast two teams.

With two teams taking to the pitch each week, ‘Belvo are always keen to recruit new faces and players of all levels of experience are always welcome.

Last year’s Open Day was a great success with new players describing it as…’great fun and just like a Tag session’ and ‘a bit nerve wracking initially, but that the friendly welcome made it easier.’

Some of the players’ favourite things about rugby were the nicknames, support, after game drinks, amazing parties, the sound of the studs on the concrete when leaving the changing room, the bit of nervous excitement before the match starts and the fact that sometimes you put your body on the line – not many other sports make you do that.

One of the highlights of the rugby season is the annual tour. This season the tour was to Dendermonde in Belgium.

A rugby tour is hard to describe for anyone who has never been but one of the players described it as being ‘like six rugby matches, in the sun, while being on a massive hen party…basically massive fun!’

So if you like the idea of a challenging, competitive sport, improving your fitness and learning lots of new skills while meeting new people, then maybe rugby is the sport for you!

The annual Open Day for new players is being held on Thursday, August 18 and if you have an interest in playing or even just finding out more, why not come along?

If you cannot make the Old Belvedere Ladies Open Day, you can still come along to the club’s training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm at Anglesea Road.
