Tucker Takes On UL Bohs Role

UL Bohemians have announced that Colm Tucker Jnr will be taking up the position of the club’s head coach for the coming 2011/12 season.

The announcement was made today by former Munster and Ireland back and newly-appointed UL Bohemians directof rugby, Barry Murphy.

“I am delighted to take over as head coach of UL Bohemians. They are a great club with a great tradition and I am looking forward to working with a very talented group of players,” said Colm Tucker Jnr.

“The club is a great fit for me. I wanted to get back into coaching as soon as I could and there is not better place to do that than with this great club.

“The club’s ambition is to get back into the top tier of Irish club rugby and I hope to achieve that.”

Tucker was head coach of Bohs’ local rivals Shannon for the past two years. He is a son of ex-Ireland international and British & Irish Lion Colm Tucker snr.

The 29-year-old’s playing career was severely curtailed by injuries. He won two All-Ireland League medals with Shannon as a hooker, before being forced to retire.

He played for St. Munchin’s College and Shannon and won caps for Ireland at Schools and underage level.

Tucker then made a name for himself as a promising underage coach, and was part of Shannon’s Geoff Moylan-led coaching staff for their league title win in 2009.

Barry Murphy commented: “Colm is an ideal candidate for us. He has great experience at all levels of rugby, from underage right through to winning the All-Ireland League with Shannon as a player and a (forwards) coach.

“The Tucker name is steeped in Limerick rugby tradition and hopefully Colm can add another chapter to that story with UL Bohemians.”

It is understood that Murphy is hoping to continue playing with UL Bohs as he recovers from recent surgery on a troublesome foot injury.
