Report from Week 8 at Sligo

Report from Week 8 at Sligo

Here is a report from the 8th week (yep, eight weeks gone already!) at ever-growing venue Sligo RFC where 36 teams now play IRFU Tag each week.

As we are heading into the final weeks of tag, the sun finally shone last thursday evening over Hamilton Park. All the games once again kicked off on time with the help of our referees who volunteer each week to ensure the games go ahead smoothly and everyone enjoys them.

The 7.15pm game saw a close match between the Cartron Cowboys and Samson United. The game was very intense as was shown on the scoreboard, the Samson United team scraped a win with 25 points to Cartron Cowboys 24 points. Another game that was set to be intense was Guten Tag versus the Strandvestites. This match was played on pitch three and was a great game to watch as it could be viewed from all angles. It was a close first half, however the Strandvestites stayed ahead with their large squad and took the win 18 points to 11 with two girl tries late into the second half. The Lemon Party had a good win against Bring on the Trumpets this week, with contributions from Sinead McLoughlin’s side they took the win by a close 2 points.

The 8.00pm games saw Wii Not Fit captained by Enda Brady take on Good4U. The games started off score against score but the Good4U team managed to touch down 3 female tries giving the final result of Good4U 15 to Wii Not Fit 4. The Third time Lucky tag team had a great win against the Garavogue Dirty Dozen, managing 6 female tries they took the win 20 points to The Garavogues 4. Fairly Lively was playing the Perfect Polos this week, with Gary Smith leading the Livelys to victory once again taking the win 27 points, which included 4 female tries, to the Perfect Polos 11 points.

Following the games the nights entertainment kicked off. This week the Tag Committee held a fundraiser in aid of STOP (Suicide, Teach, Organise and Prevent). The fundraiser took the form of the Sligo Rugby Club Hall being transformed into a Vegas Casino for the night, which included Blackjack, Poker and Roulette tables. Initially taggers could buy chips in tens for €;5 and everyone had a go at all the games. After nearly two hours of games, everyone added up there winning chips and the top five players went through to a Poker Final. The Socialites Ken Gallagher won first prize of Voya Seaweed Bath and Shells Cafe vouchers, second prize was a voucher for The Bella Vista. The Tag Committee would like to thank all the card dealers who helped out on the night and made it such a great success.

A raffle was also held on the night with first prize being 2 weekend passes to the much anticipated Sea Sessions in Bundoran which was generouly sponsored by David Armstrong of Rathedmond Crash Repairs.
The Sligo Tag Committee would like to thank all the businesses who donated very generously towards the fundraising night : Rathedmond Crash Repairs, The Bistro, Life Hair & Beuty Salon, The Bella Vista, Shells Cafe, Voya Seaweedbaths and The Thunderstruckers tag team
