Old Belvedere Do The Double With Leinster Club Sevens Title

Old Belvedere capped a memorable season by being crowned the first ever Leinster Club Sevens champions in Terenure. They now advance to the IRFU All-Ireland Club Sevens Championship next weekend. In the junior club competition Coolmine won out against Malahide.

The IRFU Leinster Club Sevens Championship was played out over several hours at Terenure College and club grounds today in some very changeable weather conditions.

Old Belvedere beat Dublin rivals Clontarf in the final of the senior club competition to add the Club Sevens crown to their Ulster Bank League title.

‘Belvo overcame Trinity by 19-5 in the first semi-final, while ‘Tarf saw off St. Mary’s College with a golden try in extra-time after the game finished 12-12.

Belvedere and Clontarf now advance to the IRFU All-Ireland Club Sevens Championship which will take place at Templeville Road next Saturday (May 21).

They join Queen’s University and City of Derry from Ulster and UL Bohemians and Garryowen from Muntster. In addition, Corinthians and Galwegians won through from Connacht today to complete the line-up.

In the junior club competition in Leinster, the semi-finals featured Coolmine against Monkstown and Malahide against Guinness.

Coolmine and Malahide won through to the final with Coolmine (pictured below with Michael McLoughlin of the IRFU) taking the prize of the first ever Leinster Club Sevens title for junior clubs.
