Magners League: Round 22 Preview

Magners League: Round 22 Preview

The permutations for the Magners League play-offs are many and varied. Only one thing can presently be said for certain, that Munster will have a home semi-final over the weekend of May 13-14.

This is the first year all that all six final round Magners League games will kick off at same time, heightening the excitement levels around the venues in Ireland, Italy and Wales.

Four of the six round 22 matches still have placing in the play-offs riding on them. Possibly the match of the round will be in Llanelli where the Scarlets take on the Cardiff Blues, with both teams still having a chance to make the last four.

A win is vital for Cardiff whose progression into the semi-finals now depends on this result. They failed to gain a single point from their game in hand against the Newport Gwent Dragons last Friday.

The hopes of reigning champions the Ospreys rest in the hands of others, all they can do is play for maximum points in their game against Aironi in Viadana and wait for confirmation of the results from other games.

Already assured of their place in the knockout stages, if Leinster want to host a second successive home semi-final, they need a victory in their game against Glasgow Warriors.

The Dragons once again hold the key to a team’s progression into the semi-finals – should their opponents, Ulster, win on Friday they will secure their place in the last four.

However, a Dragons victory, depending on results elsewhere, could even see the Irish province drop out of the play-off zone altogether.

There is everything to play for on Friday night. TV coverage will be proved by Celtic Rugby’s broadcast partners, BBC Northern Ireland, BBC Wales, RTE, S4C and TG4.

There will be live scoring and an interactive league table available here on the night.
