New Silverware Adds Shine To Club International

New Silverware Adds Shine To Club International

Irish and Scottish rugby, in conjunction with Ulster Bank, the Community Partner of the IRFU, have unveiled a new trophy for the Ireland v Scotland Club International fixture.

The Dalriada Cup was borne out of the additional significance for the sponsor which, through the RBS sponsorship of the Scottish Club team combined with Ulster Bank’s recent sponsorship of the Ireland side, will have a foot in both camps when the sides contest the trophy for the first time at Netherdale on Friday.

A staff competition took place across Ulster Bank and RBS for employees to name the cup, with the winner getting a trip to see the Ireland v England match at the Aviva Stadium.

490 people entered in total across the group with nine coming up with the winning name, the ‘Dalriada Cup’, the name of two ancient Gaelic kingdoms, one in Ireland and the other in Scotland.

An RBS & Ulster Bank employee will present the cup at the end of the game on Friday night.

Ellvena Graham, Director of Business Services Ireland, Ulster Bank, commented: “It’s great that we can mark this occasion between Ireland and Scotland with a commemorative cup, helping to celebrate the game.

“Rugby at the elite level will always receive the highest profile, but a growing and vibrant grassroots rugby community is crucial to the ongoing success of the sport.

“Local clubs and club players are the life-blood of the game and we want to wish both teams the very best of luck when they come head-to-head on Friday.”
